The New Boven Birth Center Opens at Holland Hospital: Where Technology Meets Tenderness

HOLLAND, MI – It’s a wrap— the three-phase 35,000 gross square foot renovation project of the Boven Birth Center is complete!  To ensure moms-to-be continue to have a safe and exceptional birth experience, Holland Hospital’s new Boven Birth Center now features:

• 21 private mother-baby rooms
• 8 labor-delivery-recovery rooms
• 2-bed post-anesthesia care unit
• 2 operating suites
• 4 private triage rooms
• 2 nurse stations
• Well-baby Nursery
• Special Care Nursery
• Conference space and staff support areas

“The completion of the Boven Birth Center expansion marks the end of a three-year journey, but more importantly, the beginning of a vision coming to life as a best-in-class program that will serve families in our community for decades to come,” said Kathy Nania, RN, MS, administrative director of inpatient nursing and Boven Birth Center. “Our entire staff deserves special recognition for their flexibility and creativity in ensuring continued high standards of care were met throughout each phase.” Construction was completed over a three year time period to better accommodate the existing birthing unit, which remained fully operational throughout the entire process and allowed for decisive scheduling of work. Strategic planning sessions with the Owner, Consultants and Construction Manager early in design helped identify specific needs for all trades, establish an essential timeline for deliverables and construction, and plan for peak census days while considering patient, family and staff satisfaction. M&CA provided all programming, planning, architecture and interior design services.
