Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital cancer care addition maintains seamless continuum of care with existing hospital and oncology center

CHICAGO, IL—Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital recently completed Bhorade Cancer Care addition at the Downers Grove, IL campus. The 26,000 SF addition maintains connectivity to the existing acute care hospital and radiation oncology center for a seamless continuum of care. The main floor supports a shared reception/waiting area serving both the existing radiation oncology and the new, 12-bay infusion chemotherapy facility. Treatment bays are organized around a centralized nursing concept with immediate access to medication, drug prep and support spaces. A healing garden was developed as a positive distraction for patients undergoing extensive treatment and therapy along with views to the adjacent Forest Preserve. The second level includes a physician practice setting to support the cancer center on a referral basis and provides convenient access for the return patient. The oncology program offers the most advanced clinical expertise and technology and the personal guidance necessary to combat the disease. M&CA worked closely with the design/construction team, including the Owner, Consultants, Contractor and Subcontractors to share information early in the schedule and to provide a seamless transition during the construction process.
