M&CA preparing to begin construction on Advocate Christ Medical Center’s NCCU

OAK LAWN, IL—Matthei & Colin Associates is preparing to issue the construction documents for a 15,500 SF renovation of Advocate Christ Medical Center’s Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU). The renovation includes 18 private NCCU rooms and an enhanced waiting room. Arranged in three “pods”, each with its own support spaces and Nurse Stations, the project will help improve security and reduce noise within the NCCU. The support spaces are designed to optimize operations, meeting the requirements of new supply chain systems. All new HVAC and upgraded power systems have been designed to improve energy consumption and address aging infrastructure issues. Construction is expected to start in January 2018.

Advocate Christ Medical Center (ACMC), a 749-bed, premier teaching institution, serves as a major referral hospital in the Midwest for a number of specialties including cardiovascular services; heart, lung and kidney transplant; neurosciences, orthopedics and women’s health. The institution was re-designated, for the third consecutive time, as a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. In 2014, U.S. News & World Report ranked ACMC as being among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for cardiology/heart surgery, gynecology, geriatric medicine and neurology/neurosurgery. The publication also rated the medical center as being among the top three hospitals overall in Illinois. It’s Cancer Institute has achieved three-year accreditation with commendation from the Commission on Cancer, a program of the American College of Surgeons and is rated the highest possible three stars in heart surgery.
