Obstetrics Unit

As the growth demand for newborns exceeds its designed capacity, this suburban Chicago hospital looked to add additional space to their existing Family Birthing Center. Based on numerous studies and programmatic challenges, it was decided a two-story, 36,000 SF addition and 18,800 SF renovation of the existing unit was necessary. Statistical growth indicated the need for additional LDR’s, Post-partum beds, C-section room and Private Special Care Nursery bassinets. The second floor is designed to accommodate a typical 24 bed Medical/Surgical Unit and associated support. Programmatic data, planning diagrams and 3D modeling are used to develop image and forms which complement the distinct architectural character of the hospital.
