The Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Linear Accelerator addition creates prime space for a new radiation oncology vault and also allows for the upgrade of existing facilities and equipment. To reduce the building footprint and minimize construction costs, a direct entry shielded door was used in lieu of providing the typical maze entry sequence. The automatic bi-parting door works similar to an elevator door and permits access to the room in seconds, increasing patient and staff safety. All custom apparatuses are stored in perimeter, full-height cabinets to preserve patient privacy. A decorative sliding screen wall provides an aesthetic focal point and conceals the medical hardware. The overall environment is designed to minimize stress patients may have while undergoing radiation treatment and support the latest innovative technologies.
