Situated between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains in the heart of the Great Appalachian Valley, the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland brings an era in state-of-the-art healthcare to the region. The five-story medical center is located on a 30+ acre site in this semi-rural Western Maryland setting. The comprehensive material and finish selection processes were a direct response the local culture and community as well as standards developed by the design team. Natural stone, wood and earthen tones are indigenous to the area and appear throughout the facility in varying scale and use. An artwork program was also developed to display works by national and local artists to help to promote community involvement in the healing process and bring art into the lives where it influences the most.
